 Effective October 1, 2020, the law mandates that a certificate (notarial language) must be completed for every notarial act. If the record being notarized does not include a certificate, the notarial officer will need to attach a certificate following the guidelines outlined in the Maryland Notaries Handbook,      Part VII on Notarial Certificates. Below, you’ll find the certificates formatted in both long and short forms. The short forms contain 2 certificates per page. It is advisable to carry these certificates with you to your appointments. 

If a TIPIC is used, what information about the TIP and the TIPIC must be recorded with the mortgage or deed of trust and who is responsible for ensuring this information is included? According to the Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) – information about the TIPIC (and the TIP) must be recorded with a mortgage or deed of trust. MIA also states that it is the responsibility of the TIP to ensure that the TIPIC’s information is included on the recordable document. However, as a “Best Practice,” a TIPIC can purchase and customize an ink stamp to include this information on the recordable document.
